President Klaus Johannis makes his first visit to the European organizations in Brussels as head of state. Mister Iohannis had talks, yesterday, with the European Council President, Donald Tusk and with the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker.

President of the European Commission assured Romania regarding the issue of Schengen accession

President of the European Commission assured Romania regarding the issue of Schengen accession. Jean Claude Juncker discussed in Brussels with President Klaus Johannis, during his first visit to the community insitutions. Asked to comment on the request of some member states to reintroduce border controls due to terrorist threats, Jean Claude Juncker said that the Schengen Agreement must be applied, except that, in certain circumstances, national authorities may temporarily opt for such a procedure. Klaus Johannis specified that during the current mandates, monitoring the justice could be completed, respectively removing Romania from The Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification. Joining the eurozone remains one of Romania’s goal and the committee will provide support including on attracting European funds, said president Iohannis. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

The first artificial heart implant in Romania, at the Cardiovascular Hospital in Targu Mures

The first artificial heart implant in Romania was operated yesterday at the Cardiovascular Hospital in Targu Mures. The intervention was made by a team of Romanian and foreign doctors and the patient is a 44-year old man from Suceava, who was a year and a half on a waiting list for heart transplant. The head of the Cardiovascular Hospital in Targu Mures, Horatiu Suciu, said that the surgery is a modern method to treat heart failure, but it is also an alternative to transplant, more difficult due to lack of donors. Mister Suciu also said that the patient will undergo now the appropriate treatment of heart failure. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
