Events to commemorate 165 years since the establishment of the Romanian Gendarmerie

Across the country a series of events will take place today, to mark 165 years since the establishment of the Romanian Gendarmerie. The European Gendarmerie Force Commander, Francisco Esteban Pérez, will be present at the activities organized in Bucharest. Mister Pérez pointed out Romanian gendarmes very good work in present and remebered the collaboration with them in international missions. „I think that in the near future Romanians will reach top standards and I wish them success”, said Francisco Esteban Pérez. Romanian Gendarmerie is part of the European Gendarmerie Force, alongside similar institutions in France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Poland. (RADIO ROMANIA reports).

Traian Basescu has been presented with Moldova’s highest military award

Former Romanian president Traian Basescu has been presented with Moldova’s highest military award – the Stefan cel Mare Order.
The award was handed over by Moldovan President, Nicolae Timofte, for his contribution to promoting stability, security and democracy in the region and for the constant support given to military training process in Republic of Moldova. On this occasion, the former Romanian president said that when the appropriate time comes, he will submit to the authorities in Chisinau the request to become a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, but only when the political situation will be a more stable one. A Romanian sailor died and other two are missing after an Italian trawler sank in the Adriatic Sea

A Romanian sailor died and other two are missing after an Italian trawler sank in the Adriatic Sea, off Italy’s coasts. Because of hypothermia an Italian sailor has also died. Rescuers continue their search, even if there is little chance of finding survivors. Three Italians and three Romanians were part of the ship’s crew, which sank due to big waves that have unbalanced its load of about 80 tonnes of mussels. The captain immediately asked for help, but the rescue teams reached the fishing vessel only after an hour and a half. Two investigations have been launched, a criminal one and another one launched by port authorities. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
