President Klaus Iohannis is on a visit to Germany

The Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, has started a visit to Germany, where he will take part in the Munich Security Conference, which starts on Friday. Klaus Iohannis is to meet the President of Bavaria’s Parliament, Barbara Stamm and the Bavarian Prime Minister, Horst Seehofer. According to some official sources, the Romanian President will be a main speaker in the section dedicated to the future of NATO, at the Munich Security Conference, which also has on its agenda issues such as the position toward Russia, the refugee crisis, terrorism and the situation in the conflict zones.

Romania has brought 9 billion euros to the European budget in 7 years

Romania has contributed with 9 billion euros to the European Budget, in the last seven years, according to data released by the Ministry of European Funds, Aura Raducu. She told Radio Romania’s program „Daily Problems” that, during the same period, the EU has granted Romania 33 billion euros. Aura Raducu added that she intended to focus on the most important projects, during her term in office, and that 80 of these projects are in the infrastructure field, and are worth a total of more than 3 billion euros. She also criticized the jams in the system and the poor quality of former documents meant to manage European funds.

Military exercise to oversee the naval traffic on the Black Sea

Military ships from Bulgaria, Italy, Turkey and Romania are taking part in a naval exercise to monitor the traffic in the Black Sea. Commander Mihai Panait has underlined what are the missions conducted by the Maritime Dragon „Alexandru Axente”, which is part of the NATO Naval group against Maritime Mines.
Mihai Panait: The Maritime Dragon is currently conducting 30 missions during the surveillance operations in the Black Sea, in cooperation with ships belonging to NATO’s permanent group to counter maritime mines. There are mainly search and rescue operations at sea and actions aiming to drag, search and destroy exercise mines, counter air targets and fire artillery from the ships. NATO’s exercises in the Black Sea have started on Sunday and in the period to come common activities with ships from Georgia Coast Guard are also planned.

Former chief of the Ramnicu Sarat communist detention center, sentenced to 20 years in prison

Alexandru Visinescu, a former commander of the communist detention center of Ramnicu Sarat, during 1956 and 1963, has spent the first night in the Rahova Jail, after he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, for crimes against humanity. It is the first such sentence announced by Romanian courts, that refer to crimes committed in the communist era. He defended himself, saying that he only followed orders and the detainees died because of their age.
