Romanian President Klaus Iohannis flies to Washinton D.C.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis flies to the United States on Wednesday. President Iohannis is expected to attend a Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C. The first edition of the summit was held in Washington, D.C. on April 12–13, 2010.  Leaders from across the globe will gather in Washington from March 31 to April 1 for the fourth and final edition of a summit expected is to improve worldwide nuclear security by enhancing co-operation and to make concrete agreements aimed at better securing nuclear materials and facilities. The presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin is ulikely as Russia has refused to take part in this week’s event over the lack of co-operation with partners on this issue.

European Parliament delegation on a visit to Romania

While starting a visit to Romanian capital Bucharest on Wednesday, a delegation of the Transport and Tourism Committee in the European Parliament is expected to meet Romanian Transport Minister Dan Costescu and European Funds Minister Aura Răducu along with Romanian commissioners on the issue in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Talks will include issues concerning recent development in Romania’s general transport plan, EU’s strategy on river Danube and priority transport corridors crossing Romania.

RTS chief still unknown

Romania’s Parliament is meeting again on Wednesday as a new head of the country’s State Television (TVR) remained unknown after a nominee put forward by the government failed to meet the quorum required. The appointment of George Orbean as President Director General of the TVR was rejected by lawmakers with 206 votes to 185 at a session on Tuesday. A new nomination was expected to be made by the TVR Managing Board.
