Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos is to address the UN General Assembly

The Romanian Prime Minister, Dacian Ciolos, has had a second round of talks with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, in New York. As in their previous meeting, the two prime ministers talked about the visa liberalization for Romanian citizens. The Romanian Prime Minister is due to meet representatives of the Jewish parties in the US, and also with the President of Switzerland and the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, in Wednesday. The most important moment of the day will certainly be his address in front of leaders that are taking part in the General Assembly of the United Nations. At the end of the day, Mr. Ciolos will meet representatives of Romanian community in New York.

The US Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, has visited Radio Romania

The American Ambassador to Romania, Hans Klemm, has visited Radio Romania on Tuesday and met the President Director General of the Romanian Broadcasting Society, Ovidiu Miculescu. They have discussed about the evolution of cultural and educational relations, aiming to identify opportunities for collaboration between cultural and media architects in the United States and Radio Romania.

Romania’s strategic partnership with the United States is nor affected by comments made by the American Ambassador to Chisinau

The Romanian Senate has approved a declaration stating that the strategic partnership between Romania and the United States will not be affected by recent comments, made by the American Ambassador to Chisinau, who said that Romania’s union with the Republic of Moldova is not a practical choice. The document approved by the Senators says that the remarks made by the American envoy caused worry and dissatisfaction among Romanian public. The senators insist, though, that such remarks could not influence the sovereign will of the citizens in the two states, regarding their common future in the European Union and the issue of the national Romanian identity, which is the same on both banks of the river Prut.

Romanian Foreign Minister has met Victoria Nuland in New York

The Romanian Foreign Minister, Lazar Comanescu, has met the State Department’s Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs  in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations’ General Assembly. The two diplomats talked about aspects of the Strategic Partnership between US and Romania. Both states are interested in deepening economic cooperation by means of promoting substantial investment plans, a statement by the Romanian Foreign Ministry says. They also discussed about issues of regional security, insisting on the developments in the Black Sea region and the migration phenomena.

Travel alert for Greece issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry

The Romanian Foreign Ministry has issued a travel alert for Greece, where ferry transport will be halted on Thursday and Friday, due to a strike. The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation has announced thay they will halt activity on all ships, for 48 hours, starting on Thursday, at 6 am.

The Romanian Constitutional Court has postponed a decision on same sex marriages

The Romanian Constitutional Court has postponed, for the second time, a decision on same sex marriages. The case has been filed by a US-Romanian gay couple, who got married in Belgium and seek legal recognition of their status in Romania. Currently, Romania’s Civil Code does not legally recognise same-sex marriages between Romanian or foreign citizens officialised abroad.
