Romania’s president has sent a congratulation message to Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany’s newly elected President

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis sent a congratulation message to the newly elected President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. „The relationship between Romania and Germany is excellent, of strategic nature, an aspect confirmed by the intensity of our political dialogue, of our economic and sectoral cooperation, of the inter-human relations and also through the sharing of the same fundamental democratic values„, said President Iohannis in his congratulation message. Klaus Iohannis also stressed that Germany is Romania’s first commercial partner and the third investor in Romania. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

World Radio Day

Today is World Radio Day, the most accessible mean of information, education and entertainment. The central event of the celebration of this day takes place this year in Shanghai, China, for the first time outside Europe. The Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Javad Mottaghi, said: „This year’s theme is ‘Radio is you!’ and it is really the case for Radio Romania. This proved that it is serving Romanians and a friend to all, it keeps the nation together in good times and bad ones. As everywhere in the world social networking platforms lead to the fragmentation of people with different views but Radio Romania unites Romanians and promotes a positive dialogue for change„. ‘If you have a radio you are never alone, you always have a friend’ – is one of the messages on the Internet dedicated to this day. Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg called the Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu expresing among others the appreciation for Romania’s commitment to annually allocate 2% of GDP on defense. This confirms, according to Stoltenberg, Romania’s firm resolve to meet its obligations as a NATO member. Jens Stoltenberg thanked for Romania’s substantial contribution to allied operations and missions, particularly in Afghanistan, also reveals a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest. The telephone conversation took place after earlier this week a meeting between Minister Teodor Melescanu and Secretary General of NATO was postponed, without specifying the reasons for postponement. Demonstrations against Grindeanu Government in Victoria Square

Ample protests took place yesterday in the capital and in several large cities in the country against the way in which Grindeanu Government tried to modify important justice laws. Over 50,000 people demonstrated in Victoria Square in Bucharest and at 21:00 they formed a huge „human tricolour flag”, raising overhead papers colored in red, yellow and blue, lit with mobile phones. At 22:00 those present in front of the Government chanted the national anthem. The protesters demanded the resignation of the Government. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
