Russian experts are inspecting a military facility in Romania

Russian experts are today examining a military facility in Romania, according to provisions of the Vienna Paper on measures to increase confidence and security in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. According to the news agency Tass, the announcement was made by the head of the National Center for Nuclear Threat Reduction, Sergei Ryjkov, but he didn’t specify where the inspections are taking place. The Romanian Defense Minister, Gabriel Les, has said that it was „a normal action”, that does not pose „any problems”, from Romania’s point of view. „It is a normal action at this moment. We will se their conclusions. As far as we are concerned, there is no problem”, Mr. Les said.

German experience might be a model to follow for the development of Romanian cities

The President of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce, Dragos Anastasiu, has said on Tuesday, in Bucharest that German experience could be a model to follow for the development of Romanian cities. He believes that infrastructure and tourism are the most important areas that the urban administrations in Romania should focus on. „The German Chamber has offered to be an actor, to play on the field, because we believe that „best-practice” in Germany, knowledge and experiences that Germans had during the las 25 years, for instance, are helping Romania a lot. We don’t have to blindly copy everything, we have to adapt to conditions in Romania but it might be inconsiderate to try to reinvent the wheel and the warm water and walking”, Dragos Anastasiu said.

More than 4.000 cases of measles have been confirmed in Romania

The National Center for the Supervision and Control of Transmissible Disease has confirmed more than 4,000 measles cases in Romania, until last weekend. 17 people have died of measles so far. In order to limit the spread of the measles, the medical authorities are expanding a nationwide vaccination campaign for children aged between 9 months and 9 years. The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that, despite the measures adopted so far, Romania continues to report measles cases. Doctors recommend vaccination as the only way to prevent the disease.

More than half of Romania’s children are at risk of poverty, according to a study by „Save the Children” organization

More than 26 million children in Europe are now at risk of poverty, amounting to one in three European children – a new study by the organization „Save the Children” says. In Romania, the figure is even higher, with almost half of minors who risk poverty, even in cases where both parents are employed, the Executive President of „Save the Children”, Gabriela Alexandrescu, says. „Romania is in a very serious situation, we have to admit that. So we are badly situated compared to other European countries. The budgetary allocation could be analyzed and programs for very young children should be primarily financed. So the development of education and protection programs for children from birth to three years, ensuring all children go to kindergarten, or to have a contract with parents, so as they assume some obligations to support the child to go to school”, Ms. Alexandrescu said.
