British Ambassador to Bucharest has thanked Romanian authorities and Romanian citizens for their supportive messages, after Manchester attack

The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Bucharest, Paul Brummel, has thanked Romanian authorities and citizens for their messages of support, after Monday’s terror attack in Manchester. Three people have been arrested on Wednesday, as part of the investigation into the attack, according to Reuters news agency. 22 people, including children, have been killed and 59 are wounded, in the suicide attack claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group. The perpetrator,  the son on Libyan immigrants, was known to the authorities, according to the British Interior Minister, Amber Rudd.

Romania will support the agenda of the Estonian Presidency of the European Union, Prime Minister Grindeanu says

The Romanian Prime Minister, Sorin Grindeanu, has held talks with his Estonian counterpart, Jüri Ratas, on Wednesday, during a meeting that focused on strengthening the economic relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Grindeanu has underlined the need for unity during the incoming Brexit negotiations and stated that one of Romania’s goals was to protect the rights of Romanian citizens that work in the United Kingdom. The Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas has emphasized that the rapid development of the IT sector in both countries creates the foundations for further cooperation in this area. Mr. Ratas also said that the priorities of the Estonian Presidency of the European Union Council will be an open European economy and a sustainable growth, a safe Europe and a free digital movement.

Romania has been admitted on the list of countries free of swine fever

Romania has been officially admitted on the list of countries whithout any swine fever, and on Thursday it is due to receive the acknowledgment diploma from the World Animal Health Organization – President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, Liviu Dragnea, has written on his social network page. Therefore, after more than ten years, the main hurdle for the Romanian pork exports has been removed, Mr Dragnea said, adding that countries like Japan, United States, Canada and Mexico have already manifested their intention to start bilateral negotiations for pork imports.

The Bookfest International Book Fair has opened in Bucharest’s exhibition complex Romexpo

The Bookfest International Book Fair has opened in the Bucharest’s exhibition complex Romexpo. For five days, visitors will be able to take part in more than 400 events – book releases, children activities, shows, theater plays and concerts. The Romanian Culture Minister, Ionut Vulpescu, who was present for the fair inauguration, has said that the market for published books in Romania has increased by 4-5% in the last year, after the VAT has been cut from 19 to 5%. The guest country of Bookfest 2017 is Sweden, which will organize more than 20 events dedicated to the book during the fair, as the Swedish Ambassador in Romania,  Anneli Lindhal, has announced. In the following days many writers will release new books, including Gabriel Liiceanu, Andrei Plesu, Mircea Cartarescu, Gabriela Adamesteanu, Florin Iaru, Nicolae Breban, Radu Paraschivescu, Nicolae Manolescu, Cornel Ungureanu and Mircea Mihaies.
