Four Syrian citizens trying to enter Romania illegally were tracked down at Giurgiu border crossing

Romanian border police have found four Syrian citizens who were trying to enter Romania illegally from Bulgaria, at Giurgiu border crossing. The immigrants, including two minors, wanted to get to Romania hidden in the cargo compartment of a truck licensed in Turkey. The migrants had no identity documents upon them, and the driver of the truck has said that he didn’t know he was carrying them. The border police handed them over to their Bulgarian counterparts, for further investigations.

Romania’s annual inflation rate has reached a record high for the last four years

The annual inflation rate in Romania, which measures the evolution of consumer prices during the year has reached 3.23% in November, the highest level in the last four years. According to data released on Tuesday by the Romanian National Statistics Institute, consumer prices have continued to grow in November as well. Compared to the same time of last year, food prices have risen by 3.88% in November, non-food products have marked up by 4.12%, and the cost of services went up by 0.1%. The highest prices hikes were recorded in eggs, butter and fuels. The National Bank has revised upwards the inflation forecast for the year-end, to 2.7%.

Government representatives have met World Bank delegates, in Bucharest

A World Bank delegation has met Romanian Government representatives, who brought on the agenda common infrastructure projects. Romanian Deputy Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has said that investments are a priority for the Government, who wants an increase in this sector by 20% in 2018, compared to this year. As far as public interest is concerned, investments in road infrastructure are of maximum importance, according to the Romanian official. World Bank delegates have also met President Klaus Iohannis. A statement by the Cotroceni Palace says that the discussions emphasized the need for responsible fiscal and budget policies, so that this framework could offer predictability and stability for the business environment and also face potential risks.
