Messages sent by Romanian officials on the occasion of the NATO Day

The 14 years that have passed since Romania joined NATO, the most powerful military alliance in the world, were marked yesterday in all the garrisons in the country and in theaters of operations. At the same time, the President of the country, the leader of the Chamber of Deputies and the head of the Government addressed on this occasion messages in which they mentioned mainly the role of regional security supplier which Romania assumed during this period. President Klaus Iohannis said that for our country NATO is the strongest security guarantee and he assured that we will continue to be an active part of the steps to strengthen its operational capacity as a responsible and trustworthy ally. The leader of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea said that Romania has a special place in NATO, which is largely due to – he says – the joint efforts that the Government and Parliament have consistently supported in recent years. In her turn, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila sent a message in which she reaffirmed the authorities’ desire to demonstrate that our country is a credible and reliable ally and added that future investments will address the necessary acquisitions of military technique, but also the relaunch of the domestic defense industry. Defense Minister Mihai Fifor said that „for 14 years the Romanian Army is a loyal, trustworthy partner and a real force for its allies”. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Statements made by Defense Minister Mihai Fifor on the occasion of the NATO Day in Romania

Romania will focus its attention in the next period towards the complex situation in the Black Sea area, said Defense Minister Mihai Fifor. Present in the town of Arad at the military ceremony of raising the national flag and the allied flag on the occasion of NATO Day in Romania, he also said that our country wants that during July NATO summit the topic to be a self contained discussion on its agenda. „Everything that happens in the Black Sea”, said Mihai Fifor, „as challenges of the Russian Federation, an issue which we believe should not be neglected, something that Romania as the most important security supplier in this area is very, very interested. So in the next period, through all the visits we make, through the presence of general Scaparrotti, the supreme commander of the allied forces, in Bucharest in a couple of weeks, we look forward to the visit of Secretary of Defense James Mattis, the important thing is that through everything we try to build, we are still trying to build Romania’s image as the most important Black Sea security supplier.
