Talks between the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have just ended in Paris. Among other issues, the discussions were focused on expanding the strategic partnership and enhancing economic cooperation and bilateral relations. The two leaders also talked about European subjects, as Romania is taking over the rotating Presidency of the European Union Council on January 1st. previously, the Romanian and French president have signed a political declaration within the strategic partnership. The document states that the two countries will continue to consult on strengthening the Schengen area, and France will support Romania’s accession efforts. Romania and France will also cooperate in defense, underlining their commitment as NATO members. The two presidents have inaugurated the Cultural Season Romania-France, a symbolic event also because it is the first that France is organizing with a European Union Member State.

The Romanian General Consulate in Bologna has held a reception event for the National Day

Events occasioned by Romania’s National Day have started in Italy, where the first reception was organized by the General Consulate in Bologna. The Romanian General Consul in Bologna, Daniela Maria Dobre, has celebrated the National Day last evening surrounded by Romanians and Italians in the regions of Emilia-Romagna, Toscana and Marche.

Visit by Austrian Defense Minister in Romania

The Austrian Defense Minister Mario Kunasek has had talks with his Romanian counterpart Gabriel Les on Tuesday in Bucharest. Mario Kunasek believes that Romania’s taking over of the European Council Presidency is a guarantee that the country will ensure the continuity of defense projects, a guarantee for enhancing the European policy of defense and security. The discussions between the two ministers were dominated by two major subjects: The European defense initiative – where Austria and Romania have two common projects – and the stability of Western Balkans. One of the priorities for the EU Council Presidency is to safeguard the external borders of the EU, the Austrian minister said. Gabriel Les underlined that need to continue the operation for maintaining the Althea EU peace in Bosnia-Hertzegovina.
