Police officers identified the man who threatened investigations journalist Emilia Şercan a few days ago. This is a 26-year-old police officer employed by the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Police Academy. Police sources said the man was found in the city of Slatina and is due to be brought to Bucharest. He now has the quality of suspect. Two search warrants, including one in the Capital, where the officer resides, have been implemented. Journalist Emilia Şercan announced last week on her Facebook page that she had received death threats, which is why she filed a complaint with the Police. For several years, she has published articles about plagiarized PhD theses of state officials. The journalist’s post has triggered public-level concerns. Romania’s Permanent Electoral Committee announced a set of rules regarding electoral media presentation in public spaces

On Saturday, April 27, electoral campaign begins and all forms of electoral media presentation of the participants of electoral campaign must be removed by Friday, April 26 at 24:00, said Constantin Mituleţu Buică, chairman of Romania’s Permanent Electoral Committee (AEP). Mr. Buică added that all participants whose electoral media presentation will be found on public spaces after the 26th of April will be sanctioned. The head of the AEP mentioned that during the electoral campaign for May 26 election, 500/300 cm electoral posters will be allowed only in special created places and other type of electoral propagande will be forbidden./cstoica

Ministry of Justice resumes selection process to nominate candidates for European Public Prosecutor”s Office

Romania’s Ministry of Justice has announced resuming the selection process for the candidates nominated by Romania for European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). According to the Ministry’s announced schedule, May 15 is the last day for registrations and the auditions will be held on May 20th through May 22nd at the institution’s headquarter and will be broadcast live on the Ministry’s website. After the auditions, the commission will select three candidates. The three nominees will be included on a list to be submitted by Minister of Justice to the Council of the European Union. After the previous selection, finalized earlier this month, all five Romania’s candidates to the EPPO were rejected. Our country had to submit the proposals by March 31, 2019./cstoica
