President Iohannis urges Romanians to vote in the referendum on May 26 via a Facebook post

The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, posted on Facebook a photo urging Romanians to vote in the 26 May referendum on justice. The referendum takes place on the same day that the European Parliament elections are held. In the photo, the Romanian president appears as he inserts the ballot paper into the ballot box. President Iohannis convened a referendum on justice and stressed that he would get involved directly in the campaign. The questions to which Romanians are invited to answer „Yes” or „No” are: „Do you agree to ban amnesty and pardon for corruption?” and „Do you agree with the ban on Government Emergency Ordinances on criminal legislation, correlated with extending the right to attack Emergency Ordinances directly to the Constitutional Court?”

Informal Meeting of the EU Ministers Responsible for Competitiveness (Internal Market and Industry) starts in Bucharest

The Ministers responsible for the economy, industry, the internal market and SMEs from the 28 Member States of the European Union, as well as the two member states of the European Free Trade Association (Switzerland, Norway) will meet in Bucharest at the Palace of Parliament on May 2-3. According to a press release posted on the website of the Romanian Presidency to the EU Council, the European Commission will be represented by Elzbieta Bienkowska, European Commissioner responsible for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. „The internal market contributes decisively to the increase of the global competitiveness of the European Union, which implies, inter alia, the need to relate it to other EU policies and to adapt to new developments and challenges. At the same time, the internal market is a joint responsibility of the European Commission and of the Member States, and its consolidation is one of the sectorial priorities of the Romanian Presidency at the Council of the European Union, which includes among its objectives the domestic market and the industry,” the press release stresses.

Subscriptions for new government securities issued exclusively to the public under the Treasury Program begin today

Subscriptions for new government securities issued exclusively to the population under the Treasury Program start on Thursday. Maturities are of 1, 2, 3 and 5 years, and annual interest rates between 3.5% and 5%. The related revenues are non-taxable, the Ministry of Finance specifies. State bonds can be purchased throughout this month from the Treasury units and through the Romanian Post Office. Citizens who have reached the age of 18 may be subscribed for government securities with a nominal value of 1 leu, and the interest is paid at the time specified in the issue prospectus.
