Informal Meeting of Environment Ministers from EU member states, at the Parliament Palace

An informal meeting of environmental ministers from the EU member states is held today at the Palace Parliament in Bucharest. The event – which takes place in the context of holding the Presidency of the Council of the Union by our country – is co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment, Graţiela Gavrilescu, together with the Minister for Waters and Forests, Ioan Deneş. Climate change will be discussed today, and tomorrow, in the second working session, the issue of water resource management will be addressed.

Former mayor of Constanţa, Radu Mazăre, to be brought to Romania under police escort

The former mayor of Constanţa, Radu Mazăre, is to be brought today to Romania under police escort, after he was detained by the authorities of Madagascar, where he fled almost two years ago. He is now in the custody of the Romanian Police. Radu Mazăre is convicted in several corruption cases, but in some of them the court decisions are not final. The final conviction, which also attracted the international arrest warrant, is the 9 years prison sentence given by the Supreme Court in February, in connection with illegal land restitution in Constanţa.

The number of vacant jobs decreased in the first three months of the year by 600 compared to the previous quarter

The number of vacant jobs decreased by 600 in the first three months of the year compared with the previous quarter, and by 200 against the same period of 2018, to 58.200, according to data published today by the National Institute of Statistics. In the first quarter, the vacancy rate was 1.18 percent. The most relevant increases in the vacancy rate were registered in agriculture, forestry and fishing, water distribution, sanitation and waste management, respectively in constructions. At the opposite end, the smallest values ​​of both the rate and the number of vacancies were found in the extractive industry. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the most significant increase in both the rate and the number of vacant jobs were observed in transports and storage, and the most significant declines were recorded in financial intermediation and insurance, respectively in real estate transactions.
