Dan Nica remains the main PSD proposal for the post of European Commissioner from Romania

Member of the European Parliament, Dan Nica, former Minister of Communications, remains the main proposal of the Social Democratic Party for the post of European Commissioner from Romania, instead of Rovana Lead, who was rejected last week by the Judicial Commission of the European Parliament. The decision was taken last night by the PSD leadership, which also established a backup variant, in case the European Commission wants the position to be filled by a woman. This is Gabriela Ciot, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said he would also inform President Klaus Iohannis, after clearly establishing with the chairman of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the procedure for appointing the candidate. Following this announcement, Dan Nica was asked by journalists what he would do if during the European Parliament hearings he was asked about the problems he had in the ‘Microsoft’ file. He replied that he has no problem, that he fits the requirements of the position of European Commissioner and that he will give the MEPs all the requested explanations.

The voting of the non-confidence motion will take place on Saturday

The Permanent Offices of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate have established that the debate and voting of the non-confidence motion against the social-democratic cabinet led by Prime Minister Dăncilă will take place on Saturday. The decision was taken in the permanent offices of the two Houses of the Parliament of Romania by the majority Social Democrats, with the support of the parliamentarians belonging to the national minorities. The center-right opposition viewed this decision as an abuse. According to the opposition, the PSD has already lost its parliamentary majority and legitimacy, so that, by setting the date of the vote of the censure motion for Saturday, it aims to ensure that not sufficient votes are cast for the fall of the government. The non-confidence motion, tabled in parliament on Tuesday, was voted by 237 MPs. At least 233 votes in parliament are needed for the fall of the government.
