European day of the fight against human beings traffic

Reducing human trafficking through better information is the theme of a conference organized today in Bucharest on the occasion of the European Day to fight against this phenomenon that causes many victims also in Romania. The event is organized by the National Agency against Trafficking in Persons with the participation of civil society partners and other institutions involved. Representatives of the embassies of the states where the trafficked persons arrive will also be present. The recruitment of vulnerable people is done, most of the time, by promising a better paid job – the spokesman of the Agency, Ciprian Ghiţuleasa, told the RRA, who explained how traffickers act:
Ciprian Ghiţuleasa: Traffickers discover these situations of poor communication, lack of affection, lack of support and help, and then intervene, they are raised in the custody of the respective person and manage to extract them from their protective environment. On the other hand, the most important thing is the demand. As much as we warn these victims, their social status is only a condition. They are practically looking for a better life, unfortunately they are sucked into the West by states that, unfortunately, operate through the services provided by these victims. There are many western states in need and they have a very high demand for sexual services, they have a very high demand for paid or even at least paid labor.
He also said that at European level emphasis is placed on discouraging demand in the countries of destination, but information campaigns and citizen involvement are just as important. Each of us can add to the toll free number 0800800678 if we suspect that a person is in danger of becoming a victim of traffickers.
