The Presidential Campaign for the Second Ballot Has Begun

The presidential campaign has begun, before the second ballot. It will end on December the 23rd, at 7 am. The two candidates are the acting president, Klaus Iohannis, and PSD leader, Viorica Dăncilă. According to final results of the first ballot, announced by the Central Electoral Bureau, the two obtained 37,82% and 22,26% of the votes. The voting will tae place on November the 24th, in the same sections.
Voting sections abroad will be open for three consecutive days, as follows: Friday, November the 22nd, between 12:00 and 21:00, Saturday, November the 23rd, between 7:00 and 21:00 and Sunday, November the 24th, between 7:00 and 21:00. On all three dates, there is a possibility of extension until 23:59. Romanian voters that live abroad, who have received the envelope for postal voting; they must, before applying the sticker, check that their favorite candidate is on the list for the second ballot. Otherwise, the vote will be annulled. Voters can find the section they are attributed to on www.registrulelectoral.ro. In Romania, voting will take place on Sunday, November the 24th, between 7:00 and 21:00, with a possibility of extension until 23:59.

32 Years since the Anti-Communist Rising in Braşov, in 1987

It has been 32 years today since the anti-communist rising in Braşov, in 1987. On the night between November the 14th and 15th, workers from Steagul Roşu lorry factory took to the streets, unhappy with living standards. This was one of the first big risings against Nicolae Ceauşescu regime. The approximately 400 people gathered outside the Administrative Palace, where the board of the factory was located, and then headed to the district committee headquarters of former Romanian Communist Party. Along the way, others joined the march, taking the total number of people around several thousand. They sang “Deşteapta-te, române!” (“Awaken, Romanian”) and chanted for the first time in Romania against Ceauşescu and dictatorship.

Sibiu, First City in the Country to Go Into Winter Season Atmosphere

Sibiu is the first city in Romania to go into winter season atmosphere. The Christmas Fair, considered the most beautiful event of the kind in Romania, will open tonight, in the historical center of the city, in the Big Square. The opening concert will be held by Monica Anghel and pan piper Radu Nechifor. Over 100 wooden gazebos will be open to offer visitors Christmas decorations and artisanal food. There will also be a small playground for children, Santa Claus’s studio and an artificial skating rink. The Christmas Fair in Sibiu, at its 13th edition, has become a touristic brand that attracts over 100 000 Romanian and foreign tourists every year.
