28 people died yesteray be cause of the new coronavirus in Romania, rising the toll to 248. Authorities have reported 441 new cases, taking the national number over 5,200 cases. Almost 25 600 people are quarantined and other 87 400 are isolated at home. 647 people have recovered. Pacients who are infected but asimptomatic or those with mild symptomes, who are now hospitalized, will be treated at home if the hospitals get overwhelmed. The Health minister, Nelu Tătaru, said that we must expect a rise in coronavirus cases in the next two weeks.
As far as previsions about the COVID-19 cases in Romania are concerned, Nelu Tătaru added:
The previsions are still the same and they evolve depending on a flux of Romanians coming in the country. We estimate that a week, ten days after Easter, when all our conationals will have come back, we will reach a peak. We hope that peak will be mild, not a sharp one – with many cases that could block us – and that after three-four weeks we can prepare for a drop in the number of cases and we can think about a descent of the pandemic.
The Health Minister added that authorities can provide everything that is necessary to hospitals that take care of COVID-19 patients. Important quantities of sanitary material and drugs have been distributed to those first line units, to the so called phase two facilities – pneomology sections – as well as to those offering support.
