Bucharest, the most affected city by SARS-Cov-2 infections

More than 1.100 new infections were reported by the authorities yesterday, with almost 14.500 active cases. The number of patients in Intensive Care units also continued to grow, now beeing 353, and since the beginning of the epidemic 2.206 people have died due to complications caused by infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The capital remains the hardest hit, with 167 new illnesses and a total of more than 5.300. An alarming multiplication of cases is also registered in the counties of Argeş, Braşov, Dâmboviţa and Prahova./opopescu

Romanian tourists can again travel to Turkey without beeing isolated on return, after the National Institute of Public Health updated the list of countries with high epidemiological risk. The vice-president of the National Association of Travel Agencies, Alin Burcea, announces that the flights to Antalya will also be resumed, but only from August 15. Romanians are not obliged to present the negative result of a COVID-19 test, the airport authorities doing random tests to those who enter Turkey. In Greece – another favorite destination for Romanian tourists – instead, from today, those arriving by air are accepted only if they present a negative test for COVID-19. Romanians who did not have the time to make the test before departure will be tested only today and tomorrow on arrival at Greek airports./opopescu

Of more than 7.500 tests for COVID-19 performed in the last reporting period, 1.104 were positive, meaning over 14.5%. Intensive Care units register the most patients since the beginning of the pandemic in Romania, respectively 353. A zonal quarantine was imposed in the localities Gornet, from Prahova, and Cartojani, from Giurgiu. Also, in Timiş County, the town of Făget is in quarantine, along with three surrounding villages – Bichigi, Temereşti and Colonia Mică. The authorities are to decide today whether localities in Argeş County will be put under lockdown as well./opopescu
