General Doctor Ionel Paul Oprea takes over the coordination of the activity of PHD Bucharest

The Health Minister appointed the State Secretary general doctor Ionel Paul Oprea to take over the coordination of the activity of the Public Health Direction Bucharest until the deficiencies found at the level of this institution are remedied. Nelu Tătaru also asked Ionel Paul Oprea to continue evaluating the activity of this institution, started by the team led by general manager Bogdan Nica. The decision of the Health Minister comes after PHD Bucharest has been lately intensely criticized, in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic. The press wrote about failed or even non-existent epidemiological investigations. General doctor Ionel Paul Oprea also temporarily managed the Suceava County Hospital this spring during the state of emergency, when the medical unit there had become a center of infection with the new coronavirus. The Public Health Directions are key institutions in the management of the coronavirus epidemic, being the ones that should carry out all epidemiological investigations. At PHD Bucharest there were three leaders from the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in our country and in the mandates of all three directors there were problems related to epidemiological investigations./opopescu
