The first final results of the local elections in Romania have been published

The Permanent Electoral Authority in Romania has started publishing the final results of Sunday’s elections, except for the results for Bucharest and other cities where many appeals have been filed regarding the conduct of the election. The Central Electoral Bureau decided that decisions on the possible recount of votes can be taken at the constituency level, after hundreds of requests for re-verification of voting result data have been discussed. Numerous requests were also submitted for the cancellation of the election in some localities, including Bucharest, where the last days were marked by exchanges of accusations of fraud between electoral contestants. Only one such request was approved by the Central Electoral Bureau in the case of the city of Moldova Nouă, Caraş-Severin County, where the elections will be held again on October 11. Two cases of possible crimes of forgery in electoral documents in Bucharest are being investigated. At national level, there were over 1100 notifications regarding the conduct of the electoral process, of which almost 280 were criminal cases sent to the prosecutor’s offices, said the Romanian interior ministry.

The Romanian government introduces quarantine depending on the local situation of the COVID-19 epidemic

The reintroduction of restrictions or the imposition of quarantine must be established according to the local situation of the coronavirus epidemic and not at the level of an entire county, said Prime Minister Ludovic Orban. He pointed out that where the infection rate of 1.5 cases per thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days is exceeded, the activity in restaurants, bars and other closed spaces is suspended until the situation improves. The head of the Romanian Government also said that in Bucharest, where the highest number of daily cases is reported, the rate is still below this threshold, according to the data from the population records. In Constanța, the level of 1.5 cases per thousand inhabitants was exceeded, but most of the cases come from isolated environments such as care centers. At the national level, the incidence of COVID-19 cases is close to 1 per thousand inhabitants, but the differences are large in some areas.

The Romanian health system urgently needs doctors

The Romanian health system urgently needs more doctors, said the president of the Bucharest College of Physicians, Cătălina Poiană. The representatives of the College of Physicians in the Capital say that there is a need to improve working conditions, but also to develop health policies that will increase the number of doctors, in the current epidemiological context but also given the national situation compared to Europe. There are almost 1,700,000 doctors in the European Union, which means that on average a doctor cares for 260 people. By comparison, in Romania there are 63,000 doctors, a doctor for 307 inhabitants, according to the latest statistical data. Almost one-fifth of them are family doctors, and almost two-thirds work in the cities, statistics show.
