28 Iulie 2010 19:58
A French official has said that Romania's accesion to the Schengen area should not be accepted, until the country resolves the problems of Roma people. In an interview to Radio France Internationale, French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Pierre Lellouche, has said that his country is reserved concerning Romania's accession to the Schengen area in March 2011, as schedulled. He added that the Roma problem should be a pre-condition for the accession and that Romania has the obligation to integrate the Roma population from inside its borders. Pierre Lellouche has underlined that, in spite the promise by Romanian Prime Minister, Emil Boc, to nominate a secretary of state for Roma's integration, such a person has not been named so far. In Brusselles, Romania's foreign minister, Teodor Baconschi, has said that nine million Romanis are European citizens and their freedom of move could not be restricted. French President, Nicolas Sarkozy and French Cabinet ministers will decide today if the Roma camps accross France's territory would be demolished.
