Presidential advisor for national security George Scutaru dismissed from office

Presidential advisor for national security George Scutaru has been dismissed today from office by President Klaus Iohannis and replaced with Ion Oprişor. Scutaru has been an advisor to the Presidency since December 22nd last year. Previously, he was a three-time MP representing the Liberal Party. So far, the new presidential advisor for national security, Ion Oprişor, has been a state advisor with the Supreme Council for National Defense.

German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier on a visit to Bucharest on Monday

The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is expected on an official visit to Bucharest on Monday, where he will be received by President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and his counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, according to  a press release by the German Embassy on Friday.

The state spent 30 million euros for the presidential elections last November

Nearly 44 million euros have been alotted from the state budget to finance the electoral process in the two rounds of the presidential runoff last year. The Permanent Electoral Authority has pointed out that slightly over 30 million was spent out of the total amount whilst the remaining sum was put back in the Government’s reserve fund. The average cost for each voter casting a ballot was of approximately 4 euros. The Permanent Electoral Authority has published today on its website a list of the alloted and spent amounts for the elections starting 2004.

May 8th becomes the Day of Equal Opportunities between Genders

President Klaus Iohannis has promulgated a law introducing the Day of Equal Opportunities between Men and Women as of May 8th, this year.The law is aimed at promoting equality of chances between genders as part of the social policy.

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep – WTA Player of the Month

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, ranked world’s third , was designated the best player of February in the women’s professional tennis circuit, following a survey on WTA’s site. Simona Halep only played one WTA tournament in February, but it was one of the biggest of 2015. „I’m very happy. I cannot explain in words how I feel. It’s an amazing title for me and very important for my career. I’m really happy and just want to enjoy this moment.” – declared Simona Halep after winning the Dubai Championships.

Late winter conquers Romania

Late winter weather conquered most part of the Romanian territory with a yellow code warning issued for snow, rainfall and strong winds on Friday. Temperatures are now 8 degrees lower than the monthly average and the snow layer reaches nearly 20 cms in the mountain areas. Starting tomorrow, only the southern part is going to be affected by further precipitation, especially the Danubian Plain. The weather will get warmer starting this Monday with day-time temperatures reaching 10 degrees Celsius in the most part of the country.
