Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu welcomed the nomination of Hans G. Klemm as the new American ambassador to Bucharest

Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu welcomed the nomination of Hans G. Klemm as the new American ambassador to Bucharest. Mister Aurescu added that he will work with the new ambassador to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United States and Romania. President Barack Obama nominated Hans G. Klemm yesterday as ambassador to Romania, a vacancy for more than two years. The appointment must be now approved by the Congress. Hans G. Klemm joined the diplomatic corps in 1981, was ambassador to East Timor – an island nation in South-East Asia – and worked at the United States embassies in Afghanistan, Japan, Germany, South Korea and Trinidad and Tobago. Mr. Klemm speaks Japanese and German, studied economics and history at Indiana University and has a master’s degree from Stanford in international development policy. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

The European Commission adopted Romania’s 2014-2020 multiannual program for asylum, migration and integration

The European Commission adopted Romania’s 2014-2020 multiannual program for asylum, migration and integration. For this program, the European Union will allocate 24 million euros to Romania.  Most of the money, about 22 million, come from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). Two million euros will be for projects of repatriation and reintegration of migrants in their countries of origin and 36 other national programs are to be approved this year. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Crown Princess Margareta decorated outstanding personalities of public life and cultural institutions

Crown Princess Margareta decorated 25 outstanding personalities of public life and cultural and educational institutions in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova. The event, which took place at Peles Castle in Sinaia, was occasioned by Princess Margaret’s birthday. The National Bank Governor, Mugur Isarescu, the director of the National Theatre Bucharest, Ion Caramitru and the conductor of the Romanian Radio National Orchestra, Tiberiu Soare, were among the personalities decorated. The ceremony was followed by an official dinner offered by the Royal House, attended by president Klaus Johannis, with his wife, Carmen. He is the first president in office who took part in an official event at Peles Castle in Romanian history. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
