Strategies for Romania’s accession to the Eurozone discussed at Cotroceni Palace

President Klaus Iohannis has had talks today at Cotroceni Palace with Prime Minister Victor Ponta and Central  Bank’s Governor Mugur Isarescu regarding Romania’s accession to the Eurozone, meant to identify the main stages and economic responsibilities of the process, according to commitments made by the Government within the 2015-2018 Convergence programme. According to a press release by the Presidency, the head of state is going to schedule further consulations with political parties in search of a national consensus regarding the Eurozone accession, in order to create a national strategy and a strict calendar of measures ensuring a predictable and stable economic path. During the meeting, the set up of a Coordinating Committee for the adoption of the common currency was decided. Its task will be to plan, coordinate and monitor the stages and responsibilities involved in this process.

Delegation of the American Congress received by Prime Minister Victor Ponta

Political and military co-operation between Romania and the United States has been appreciated as excellent by a delegation of the American Congress received today at Victoria Palace by Prime Minister Victor Ponta. The delegation  led by Deb Fischer, President of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, praised the bilateral co-operation, the one within NATO, in the theatres of operations but also that in the Romanian bases, according to a press release. PM Victor Ponta presented the measures undertaken by the Romanian Government amid evolutions in the Eastern vecinity to support efforts of the Eastern Partnership countries to forge closer ties with the European Union.

Canadian company obtains 20-year gold exploration licence in Western Romania

A new Canadian company called Carpathian Gold has obtained an exploration licence through its Romanian subisdiary, Samax, for gold and copper ores in the Apuseni Mountains in western Romania. The National Agency for Mineral Resources has issued a 20-year licence which is to go into force after several other government approvals and the publication of in Romania’s Official Gazette. The region to be explored by Carpathian Gold is 20 kilometers away from Rosia Montana, between Rovina and Criscior villages in Hunedoara county.

Romania and the United States sign agreement to implement measures of the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act

Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici and US Charge d’Affaires ad interim Dean Thompson have signed today the Agreement between Romania and the United States regarding improvement of international fiscal conformation by implementing measures of the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act – FATCA. The signing ceremony has taken place at the Finance Ministry’s headquarters. The document negotiated by the authorities complies with the FATCA mutual agreement model involving automatic exchange of information between fiscal bodies of the two states concerning reports of financial institutions.

Central Bank Governor considers people with bank loans need fiscal facilities

Central Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu considers that people with bank loans need fiscal facilities meant to leave them with more money for consumption. Speaking at a conference in Bucharest today, the governor proposed the so-called „Lower the installment” government program and explained why people still fail to perceive the economic growth:

Mugur Isărescu: There is quite a long way from economic growth to people’s wallets. Most of the times, it is a long way. The indicator that we should analyze is the available income, what people have left in their wallets. This available income is getting lower and we should probably wonder why a program meant to ease the burden of credit reimbursement based on available income is left in the shadow while all sorts of other projects emerge but do nothing else than discourage loan contracting in the long run, even manage to get the better of it.

Organ recital season starts off at the renowned Black Church in Brasov

The beginning of June is the annual start-off for the organ recital season at the renowned Black Church in the city of Brasov. Starting Tuesday, June 2nd 2015 until late September, the public is welcomed to meet the fascinating and unique organ music. The 63rd summer season will host 36 concerts between June 2nd-September 29th.
