The number of Romanians working legally in the United Kingdom has tripled in the last year

The number of Romanians working legally in the United Kingdom has tripled in the last year, according to statistics cited by the newspaper „The Daily Mail”. In March this year, almost 153,000 Romanians had work permits in Great Britain, compared to 47,000 in 2014. Since January last year, when restrictions were lifted, Romanian and Bulgarian citizens have the opportunity to find a job in the UK like any other citizen of the European Union. At the time of lifting of restrictions, the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, considered as „reasonable” the level of immigration from Romania and Bulgaria. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Frans Timmermans will talk with Romanian officials about the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism

First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, will talk today, in Bucharest, with Romanian officials about
the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM). He announced yesterday, in Ruse, where he participated at a forum on the functioning of the European institutions, that this mechanism through which the activity of justice systems  in Romania and Bulgaria is monitored will be maintained as long as necessary. After he met with Prime Minister Victor Ponta last evening, in Giurgiu, First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, will meet with members of reunited committees for European Affairs and later with President Klaus Johannis and Minister of Justice, Robert Cazanciuc. Yesterday, in Ruse, the European official said he will talk with Romanian officials about the rule of law, reforming the judiciary, fundamental rights and the fight against corruption. German Defence Minister’s visit in Bucharest

Romanian Defence Minister, Mirecea Dusa and his German counterpart, Ursula von der Leyen, talked yesterday, in Bucharest, about strengthening NATO ‘s eastern flank in the context of the existing security risks for the allied countries, as a result of Russia’s aggressive policy in the region. The two officials also talked about the situation in Ukraine and about the strategic role of the Black Sea Basin. „We are both worried about Kremlin’s policy effects in Ukraine”, said Ursula von der Leyen. „Berlin fully understands the great strategic importance of the Black Sea Basin. Therefore, we carefully observe the events in eastern Ukraine, Crimea and Transnistria”. In turn, Minister Dusa noted that there are non-stop air police mission in the Romanian airspace and almost daily a NATO aircraft provides electronic surveillance of the national territory. He added that German soldiers will be part of the two NATO structures, which will be set up in the next period in Romania. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
