Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu begins a two-day visit to Iran

Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu begins a two-day visit to Iran today, accompanied by a significant economic delegation. It is the first visit by a foreign official after recent Iran’s parliamentary elections. The Romanian chief diplomat will be welcomed by President Hassan Rouhani, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and will have extended consultations with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif. The visit agenda also includes meetings with the Ministers of Economy, Finance and Oil, respectively. Lazar Comanescu is accompanied by a significant economic delegation, one of the largest which visited Iran lately, after the coming into force of the agreement between Teheran and world powers, through part of the sanctions against Iran were lifted. Progress in the fight against corruption in Romania is encouraging, says Věra Jourová

Progress made in Romania in the fight against corruption is encouraging, sayid yesterday, in Bucharest, the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, Věra Jourová. She stated that in 2017 it will be decided whether monitoring will be held on justice.  Věra Jourová spoke about promoting the European Public Prosecutor, in the context of recovery of damages created by crimes.  „It is not just about money, but also about people’s trust. I saw the statistics and millions of euros were stolen or disappeared through corruption, and people expect money to be recovered, because they are taxpayers’ money”, said Věra Jourová. European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality met with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, with Minister of Labour, Ana Claudia Costea, with members of parliament and with non-governmental organizations.  (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Romania’s population is growing old

Romania’s population is growing old, there are almost 210,000 more adults over 65 than children between 0 and 14 years old. The latest data of the National Institute of Statistics show that the average age of the population in Romania reached almost 41 years, a slight increase from the previous year. The National Institute of Statistics also states that almost 100,000 Romanians are over 65 years old and over 22 million people have their addresses in documents in Romania, but this does not mean that everyone is living or working in our country.
