High unemployment rate in eastern Romania

Most of the time, the Romanian eastern county of Vaslui leads among the counties facing high unemployment due to massive layoffs in recent years, according to a report issued by a SMS Association in Vaslui on Wednesday. More than 8,000 lost their jobs in the last six years, the report says. Some of them left the country in an attempt to find a job abroad while others stayed at home living on poor unemployment benefits offered by the Romanian state. Employers’ representatives believe that a reform in the Vaslui county’s industry may be the only solution to the crisis.
