World Health Organization awarded prizes to Romania for the fight against smoking

World Health Organization awarded prizes to Romania for the fight against smoking. Our country won two of the four awards European Region granted to European Region for the efforts and results in the adoption of legislation banning smoking in enclosed public places. Minister of Health Vlad Voiculescu attended the ceremony. He drew attention, on the occasion of  World No Tobacco Day, that passive smoking kills three times more people than all road accidents. According to statistics, 40,000 Romanian  die annually from smoking and 5,000 of them are passive smokers. World No Tobacco Day is marked around the world every year on May 31st, and it was initiated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1987. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Astronomical Observatory „Victor Anestin” in Bacau reopens after modernization works

Astronomical Observatory „Victor Anestin” in Bacau reopens today after modernization works which lasted one year and eight months. They included the building of an information point and in planetarium hall the visitors can travel to any point in the Universe through digital projection technology. A point of astronomical observations will be opened for the public atop Observatory’s building,
equipped with a powerful telescope and a mobile dome. Upgrading the Astronomical Observatory cost about 13 million lei, of which 9 million irredeemable assistance from European funds. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

16,000 tons of fuel oil offered as humanitarian aid granted by Romania to Moldova

The first batch of the 16,000 tons of fuel oil the Romanian government has offered Moldova as humanitarian aid arrived yesterday in Chisinau. There are the first 24 tanks of fuel oil which will be used by thermal power plants in Moldova’s capital, Chisinau. The fuel oil is the last part of the humanitarian aid provided by Romania to Moldova, which sent more than 200 tons of sugar and 20 thousand parcels with food in the last three months. Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega said that it is a fuel oil reserve for crisis situations for  Chisinau municipality. The next tranche of fuel oil will arrive in Chisinau next week, according to the representative of the  National Administration of State Reserves and Special Issues. (RADIO ROMANIA reports).
