President Klaus Iohannis about the impact of United Kingdom decision to leave the European Union

Romania will manage without major problems the impact of United Kingdom decision to leave the European Union, said President Klaus Iohannis. He pointed out that he had received assurances from Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos and from the Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu that both the economy and the national currency will get through the Brexit crisis. President Klaus Iohannis also said that our country remains attached to the European project. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

The first congress of Romanians everywhere started today in Bucharest

The first congress of Romanians everywhere started today in Bucharest. 49 delegates from 13 countries will elect a council, which will be the forum of representation for diaspora communities and historical regions. The participants spoke about the unity of diaspora in the interest of Romanian citizens and asked Romanian authorities to help preserving national identity. Romanian diaspora has an important contribution to the country’s image internationally and starting today their voice will be heard in the Romanian Parliament too. It is the message that authorities in Bucharest sent to the delegates present at this congress. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

Romanians in the United Kingdom are worried about the outcome of the referendum and they ask authorities in Bucharest to take steps to ensure appropriate conditions for those who work in this country. Cristina Irimia, representative of the Romanian community in the United Kingdom: „We must ensure that a discriminatory treatment will not applied. We can not once again become the scapegoat of East Europeans in Britain image and we can not become the symbol of all the problems caused by the waves of migration from Eastern Europe. So, we need diplomacy, we need lobby and we need perseverance”. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
