Romania’s 341st Infantry Battalion „White Sharks” returned home from Afghanistan

Romania’s 341st Infantry Battalion „White Sharks” returned home after NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan ended. „White Sharks” mission, carried out with 420 soldiers during almost seven months, was to secure Kandahar airport, to protect coalition personnel deployed in this base and operations carried out by advice and assistance teams. Although it was difficult „White Sharks” successfully fulfilled their mission. Lieutenant Colonel Liviu Necula, 341st Infantry Battalion commander: „During more than six months, 341st Infantry Battalion „White Sharks” fulfilled missions to secure Kandahar Military Air Base and also missions to secure protection of advisers in the teams which acted to advise Afghan security forces. There were tough moments, we treated them professionally, responsibly, the soldiers showed great professionalism, dedication during the mission, there were no problems, neither moral nor psychological, affecting the mission”. „White Sharks” Battalion is an elite force of the Romanian Armed Forces, having so far carried out several foreign missions in Kosovo, Iraq and twice in Afghanistan. American Ambassador Hans Klemm visited the town of Bistrita

Romania will host a large military exercise in July, with 30,000 soldiers from NATO members states attending, said in the town of Bistrita the American Ambassador in Bucharest, Hans Klemm. Mister Klemm stressed that relations between Romanian and American armies are very good. „We have not only a close personal friendship between Romania and the United States”, said Hans Klemm, „but a strategic Partnership and together we are allies in NATO. Romanian and American  soldiers have a very close cooperation. There were 180 US-Romanian joint training exercises last year. 180 such occasions which means ways at every two days, our troops, members of the air force, land forces and special forces have trained together. You will see that in July this year there will be a major exercise in Romania, approximately 30,000 soldiers from NATO member states will come to train together with Romanian soldiers”. The US ambassador to Romania inaugurated „American Shelf” at the County Library ‘George Cosbuc’ in Bistrita-Nasaud, with the embassy donating about 250 volumes in English, for all who want to familiarize with the American literature and culture. Save the Children Romania organization starts equipping Filantropia Maternity Hospital in Bucharest

Save the Children Romania organization starts the fifth year of the campaign to combat infant mortality by providing modern equipments to maternity hospitals. The first donation will be for Filantropia Maternity Hospital in Bucharest – a performant incubator worth 45,000 lei. Through this campaign the organization endowed so far 67 maternity hospitals with 275 equipments worth 10 million lei. The child mortality rate in Romania continues to be two times higher than the European average. Experts believe that one third of these deaths can be prevented by developing support programs for mothers and children and by endowing maternity hospitals and newborn wards with advanced medical equipment.
