The Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis was awarded the „Light unto the Nations” honor in Washington

The Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, has received the „Light unto the Nations” honor in Washington, the most important prize awarded by the American Jewish Committee to head of states that stood out in promoting democratic values. The President has dedicated the honor to Romania and its citizens, saying that his country will continue to be one of the main promoters in the European Union of the trans-Atlantic relations.
Klaus Iohannis: I continue to believe strongly in the importance of the European Union. We need a renewed creative effort for a stronger, safer and more prosperous Europe. The United States also need European Union as a strategic partner. The security of the European Union as the whole of Europe is very relevant for the security of the United States. It was always the case and it will still be. In this context, I can assure you that we will continue to be one of the strongest transatlantic pillars inside the EU.
President Iohannis also spoke of the strong bond between Romania and the United States, as this year the two countries mark 20 years since the Strategic Partnership was signed. Mr. Iohannis has emphasized the great military cooperation, the economic opportunities from Romania, as well as sectors as education and research as extremely important for the countries’ shared future.
During the second day of his visit to the US, President Iohannis will have an important meeting with the CIA chief, Mike Pompeo.

The Romanian economy will grow this year at a higher rate than previously estimated, World Bank says

The Romanian economy will grow by 4.4% this year, by 0.7% more than the forecast made at the start of the year, the World Bank has said, in a report published on Monday. The World Bank has also revised upwards the forecast for the next two years, when Romania’s GDP might increase by 3.7% and 3.5% respectively. In the first quarter of 2017, Romania has had the fastest growth pace in the European Union, of 5.7%, due to an increase in consumption and in April the budget also had a slight excess.

The Romanian citizen hailed as a hero in London will be called at the Romanian Embassy in the city

Florin Morariu, the Romanian citizen hailed as a hero after Saturday’s London Bridge attack, is to be offered a series of protective measures by the Romanian Embassy in London. Mr. Morariu has said that he was afraid of reprisals, after he confronted the attackers. The Romanian Ambassador to the UK, Dan Mihalache, has also said that he will ask the authorities in Bucharest to honor the hero Romanian. Romanian Florin Morariu was seen in a video helping a police officer armed with a baton to lead a stabbing victim to safety. According to the footage, Mr Morariu gave refuge to 20 terrified people in the bakery where he works until after police had killed the terrorists. The baker said he saw a victim being stabbed in the throat as three killers went on the rampage in Borough Market just minutes after driving a rented van into innocent pedestrians on London Bridge. He also launched a crate into one of the terrorists, according to the footage. Seven people were killed in Saturday’s attack.
