Increasing energy prices will affect the drug market, Romanian manufacturers say

Increasing energy and fuel prices will also influence the drug market seriously, with an impact not as much on drug prices as on cheap treatments being withdrawn from the market, as manufacturers in the drug industry remarked. The CEO of the Generic Medicine Manufacturers Association, Laurenţiu Mihai, explained to Radio Romania that the price of medicines is regulated by the state, so manufacturers will either have to bear the cost increase, or else remove the products that are no longer profitable. „The situation is already very serious, because drug manufacturers can hardly afford to raise market prices in proportion to the 20% overcharge on production„, said Laurentiu Mihai. A new increase of the fuell prices by 0.16 lei per liter has been applied as of October 1st; electricity has also increased by 0.03 lei per kilowatt, and natural gas prices by an average of 6%. On top of it, an increase is announced in bank instalments for loans in Romanian lei because of the ROBOR index growth.
