President Klaus Iohannis highlighted the excellent level of the bilateral relationship between Romania and France in the context of a year with multiple meanings to the relationship, namely the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership Declaration, the launch of the Romania-France Cultural Season and the Centennial of Romania’s Greater Union, to which France made a significant contribution. During the meeting with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian, President Klaus Iohannis expressed Romania’s desire to co-operate as closely as possible with France in addressing the main issues of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council. Romanian President underscored the importance that Romania attaches to joining the Schengen Area and the hope that France will support a decision in that regard. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)

European Commissioner for Regional policy Corina Cretu expresses her conviction that Europe needs a cohesion policy for all regions, but she appreciates that keeping the status quo is not an option. The European high official attended the General Affairs Council, which took place in Luxembourg. She stressed the need to provide greater flexibility in the future, a customized approach based on regional needs, including, for example, a new allocation method and new indicators, as well as a closer link between cohesion policy and structural reforms. Minister of National Defense Mihai Fifor paid a working visit to Afghanistan this week

Minister of National Defense Mihai Fifor paied a working visit to Afghanistan this week. He was accompanied by several generals and officers who are in charge of the Romanian Armed Forces. In the two-day visit, Mister Fifor was informed about the missions carried out by the Romanian forces in Kandahar base. He discussed with the troops and made inquiries about the problems they are facing, the state of the equipment and the military technique, as well as real support needs to carry out the tasks, according to a Defence Ministry communiqué.
