Romania can ensure the energy security at home and for neighboring countries, says the Energy Minister, Anton Anton

Romania is capable of ensuring its national energy security and for states in the region, the Energy Minister Anton Anton has said in Parliament. According to Mr. Anton, Romania meets all criteria to become an energy exporter. Invited in Parliament’s „Government Hour” by the political group of The Save Romania Union (USR), to present the condition of the national energetic system, Minister Anton Anton has said that many state companies in the area have become profitable in the last year.
Anton Anton: Last year, Oltenia has registered for the first time a profit of about 200 million lei. Hidroelectrica also has a 1,6 billion profit. Nuclearelectrica showed a 340 million lei profit, and ELCEN, which is still insolvent, had a 45 million profit last year.

Ludovic Orban, the President of the National Liberal Party, has met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin

The president of Romania’s National Liberal Party (PNL) Ludovic Orban met Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Monday. According to a statement issued by PNL, Angela Merkel, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, has expressed her party’s support for Romania’s PNL, as a close partner inside the PPE. They also agreed ways to collaborate on subjects from the European agenda. The statements underlines that Orban and Merkel discussed about the political situations in Romania and Germany, including developments on upholding the rule of law in Romania, and also the prospects of expanding the economic relations between Romania and Germany

Anti-corruption prosecutors have asked for a jail sentence for the Social Democrat leader Liviu Dragnea

The anti-corruption prosecutors have asked for a jail sentence for the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea, in a case concerning bogus employment at the General Direction of Social Assistance and Child Protection in Teleorman. Tuesday was the last term for trial, and the Supreme Court is due to issue a decision in this case on May 29th. At the end of the session, Liviu Dragnea, who is accused of incitement to abuse of office and incitement to forgery, has reaffirmed that he is innocent.
Liviu Dragnea: There are people who were in the courtroom, whose lives are ruined, who are unease and have a problem within their families, who were dragged here for what? For some statements compiled in an indictment that has one political target – me – and I feel guilty that this is the reason why these people are here. And I have strongly affirmed my innocence, I have done nothing of the supposed facts that the DNA have thrown in the indictment.
The session prosecutor has asked a medium sentence of seven years and a half of jail for Liviu Dragnea, for incitement to abuse of office and two years and a half for instigation to forgery./mbrotacel
