The official visit of president Klaus Iohannis in Italy ended with a meeting with Romanians

President Klaus Iohannis ended his three-day visit in Italy on Tuesday, with a meeting with Romanians, attended by Virginia Raggi, mayor of Rome. He underlined the Romanians’ contribution to Italy’s developement and the strengthening of the Romanian-Italian partnership. Also, the president attended an economic forum.
The chief of state mentioned that, in the first half of this year alone, the commercial trading amounted to eight billion euro, more that six percent higher than last year. He added that it might go over 15 billion euro for 2018, which would be the highest in the last 10 years.
„We want to strengthen Romanian exports that already have a tradition on the Italian market, such as the cars, electrical equipment, clothes and furniture industries. Also, we encourage the investment interest for domains such as IT&C, bio alimentary, tourism and financial services”, said Klaus Iohannis.On the third day of the visit, the president met Roberto Fico, president of the Lower House, and afterwards attended the goodbye ceremony with president Sergio Mattarella.

Last conclusions after the earthquake simulation

Authorities are preparing to draw their first conclusions after the simulation of a big earthquake in Romania. One of the improvements asked by Raed Arafat, Secretary of State- Head of the Department of Emergency Situations at Ministry of Internal Affairs, is that the law concerning the intervention in case of emergency situations allows a more rapid decision taking, without the need to call any commission. More details will be presented at the and of the exercise.
During these last days, emergency teams have been involved in the exercise that took place in several areas of the capital, search and rescue operations, getting victims out from under the ruins of buildings and recovery of people stuck at heights. The actions focused mainly on the center of the capital because, according to the set scenario, Bucharest would be the worst affected by a 7,5 degrees earthquake, followed by two aftershocks in the following days. According to the scenario, 60 patients were evacuated from Malaxa Hospital in the capital. They were transported to a mobile hospital, organized in a commercial center in Pantelimon and, afterwards, some of the patients were eveacuated using MAPN aircrafts at hospitals in Iaşi and Timişoara. Yesterday, there were made medical evacuations of some patients admitted in mobile hospitals, using three aircrafts from foreign partners involved in this exercise. They belonged to Slovakia, Sweden and Israel.

Romanian students receive medals at the International Astronomy Olympics

Romanian students got five medals at the International Astronomy Olympics that took place in Colombo – Sri Lanka, and was attended by 80 contestants from 18 countries. Romanians left with two golden medals, one silver medal and two bronze medals. They, together with their teachers, were congratulated by the acting minister of education, Rovana Plumb, who announced that the students will receive a grant from the institution she leads.
