Romania, on the United States list of potential customers for the „invisible” F-35 combat aircraft

Romania is on the US list of potential customers for the F-35 „invisible” combat aircraft. According to a Pentagon official, the United States are considering expanding sales for this type of airplane to five new countries, as European allies are strengthening their defense systems against a more powerfull Russia. The information on new customers is coinciding with tensions between the United States and Turkey over the F-35 contract./opopescu

Official visit to Slovakia by the Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dăncilă

RADOR (5 April) – The Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dăncilă, is today making an official visit to Slovakia. Talks in Banska Bystrica with her counterpart, Peter Pellegrini, will be followed by wreath of a sheaf in the Slovak National Inssurection Market. Viorica Dăncilă will then go to the military cemetery in Zvolen, where over 10,000 Romanian soldiers fallen in the battles for the liberation of Czechoslovakia from the Nazi occupation are burried. The Government of Bucharest states in a declaration that the visit of the Romanian Prime Minister to Slovakia aims to contribute to deepening the cooperation between the two countries from a bilateral, European and regional perspective./opopescu

Interviews for the nomination of the Romanian candidate to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture

The Romanian Justice Minister, Tudorel Toader, is leading the Interview Commission for the nomination of Romania’s candidate to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Only two prosecutors were declared admitted to the dossier evaluation stage, but Romania has only one representative in the committee. The role of the Committee is to visit places of detention to examine the treatment of persons deprived of their liberty and, where appropriate, to make recommendations to States for the protection of such persons. Members of the Committee are elected for a four-year term. The mandate of Romania’s current representative expires in December 2019./opopescu
