Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to attend an Eastern Partnership summit

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is in Brussels for an Eastern Partnership summit on Monday. Presided by EU Council chief Donald Tusk, the meeting is expected to mark the 10-th anniversary of a partnership designed to create an area of democracy, prosperity, stability and co-operation between EU Member States and six East-European partner countries including such post-Soviet states as Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. In May 2008, Poland and Sweden put forward a joint proposal for an Eastern Partnership with Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, with Russia and Belarus participating in some aspects. Eventually, Belarus joined the initiative as a full member while Russia declined any further involvement.

MAE weather alerts for Italy

Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) issued a travel alert for Italy on Monday. Most of Italy has been placed on weather alert as forecasters warned of storms in Emilia Romagna and Marche. Orange codes were issued for southern Tuscany and other Italian southern regions such as Abruzzo, Lazio, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria and Island of Sicily. Romanian travelers are advised to avoid visiting Italy due to weather conditions. During the weekend, an unusually cold Arctic outbreak for early May reached much of Europe. By Sunday morning, air temperatures had dropped below freezing as far south as northern Spain and Italy.

7th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting in Romania

The seventh meeting of EU education ministers as members of ASEM is scheduled in Romania’s capital Bucharest between May 15 and 16The 7 at the Parliament Palace of the Parliament. Themed under „Connecting Education: Inclusion, Mobility & Excellence in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals”, the meeting aims to strengthen collective action to achieve SDGs, especially SDG4 – ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning, and reinforce global political commitment to education. The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an intergovernmental process established in 1996 to foster dialogue and co-operation between Asia and Europe. Presently it comprises 53 Partners: 30 European and 21 Asian countries, the European Union and the ASEAN Secretariat. ASEM addresses political, economic, financial, social, cultural, and educational issues of common interest in a spirit of mutual respect and equal partnership.
