The Eastern Partnership Business Forum, in Bucharest

Bucharest is hosting today one of the last events in its mandate by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council. This is the 6-th Eastern Partnership Business Forum organized by the Foreign Ministry. The forum is attended by government officials and business representatives from EU member states and from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The Romanian Presidency of the Council of the Union underlines again one of its priority topics: the Eastern Partnership. Beyond political targets, Romania believes that the linking of the Partner countries with the Union must also be a practical, economic, investment and infrastructure. As a country at the Eastern border of the Union, Romania considers it necessary to adapt the Eastern Partnership to the specific interests of the participating states. Currently, Romania is trying to gather and promote proposals to improve this European initiative after 2020./opopescu

US missile location near Russia”s borders could trigger a crisis

Russia threatens Romania again. Moscow warns of the danger of launching a missile crisis comparable to that of Cuba in 1962. At the base of such an escalation of international tensions are US missiles near Russia’s borders, such as those located at Deveselu in Romania – said a senior Russian official. US rocket locations near Russia’s borders could trigger a missile crisis, identical to that in Cuba in 1962. The statement was made by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov in the Federation Council, Moscow’s top chamber of parliament, where a bill is being discussed to suspend Russia’s participation in the medium- and intermediate-range missile treaty. The high-ranking Russian official referred to the MK41 launchers installed by Deveselu in Romania as elements of the missile shield. „NATO’s intentions have been aggressive from the beginning and so have remained,” said Riabkov. Despite repeated assurances by the US and its allies in NATO that rocket launchers installed in Romania and Poland have a purely defensive role in counteracting Iranian ballistic threats, Moscow insists they pose a threat to security its. Tensions between Moscow and Washington increased after President Donald Trump earlier this year announced the US withdrawal of the Medium and Intermediate Missile Treaty./opopescu
