The European Commission President will inform MEPs about negotiations on nomination of candidates for EU top positions

The European Council President, Donald Tusk, will today inform the European deputies – in the last working day of the first plenary session of the new Parliament in Strasbourg – on negotiations about the nomination of candidates for top EU positions. Yesterday, the president of the European legislative body was elected, in the person of the Italian socialist David Sassoli, as well ast he 14 vice presidents, coming from six political groups representing ten countries. Romania has the most representatives – five in the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs: Vasile Blaga and Rareş Bogdan from PPE, the social democrat Tudor Ciuhodaru, Ramona Strugariu and Dragoş Tudorache from Renewed Europe. The former president Traian Băsescu and Claudiu Manda are part of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, and the former European commisioner Corina Creţu will be a member of the Commission for Regional Development./opopescu

Romania in the top European retail growth

Romania was ranked fifth in the European Union in the retail trade growth in May, compared with the same period last year, the European Statistics Office said. The top positions were occupied by Luxembourg, Ireland and Slovenia. The largest declines were registered by Slovakia, Denmark and Croatia. At EU level, sales of non-food products, as well as food, beverages and cigarettes increased, and fuel prices dropped./opopescu
