Increased risk for avalanches in Fagaras Mountains

There is a high risk of avalanches in Romania’s Fagaras Mountains, at heights over 1,800 meters. The 4th grade warning also covers the area of Balea Lake, where the layer of snow has exceeded one and a half meter. The Mountain Rescue Center in Sibiu has recommended tourists to stay around the huts, to refrain from practicing winter sports and not go on the versants. At the moment, the only way of access to the Balea Lake, at over 2,000 meters high, is by cable car, starting from Balea Falls.

Travel alert for Romanians in Iraq and the Middle East region

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest has recommended to Romanian citizens to avoid trips that are not absolutely necessary in Iraq, given the escalation of tensions in the Middle East area. Also, the Romanians already there are advised to avoid the areas where meetings, political rallies or any kind of demonstrations take place and to announce their presence at the nearest diplomatic or consular mission, in order to be contacted in the event of any emergency situation. The travel alert for Iraq and the entire Middle East area was published after an influential Iranian general was killed in a US airstrike in Iraq.

One Romanian died and seven others were injured in Spain, in a road accident

One Romanian citizen died and seven others were injured in a road accident in Spain. The accident occurred on Thursday morning, in dense fog conditions in the western region of Extremadura, on the highway to Seville. Four people suffered multiple traumas, and three of them have fractures and traumas in the cervical area. The seven Romanians were in a van, stopped on the side of the road. The car was hit by a speeding truck. Several ambulances, firefighters and police, as well as the Red Cross, were present at the site, after the accident.
