Sibiu City Hall activity temporarily suspended as coronavirus threat grows
The City Hall in the Romanian central town of Sibiu temporarily suspended its activity on Tuesday after four employees with the Social Welfare Department were confirmed positive to SARS-CoV-2 virus. Sibiu’s Public Health Directorate opened an epidemiological investigation into the case. Investigations may result in home isolation of other five officers with the Mayor’s Office. The City Hall in Sibiu is expected to resume activity on Wednesday (July 22) after disinfection. The decision did not affect the Population Reference Office operating in  the building.
Romania’s new bill on quarantine and isolation into force
Romania’s government had to change its previous rulings concerning the state of alert in order to comply with a new law on isolation and quarantine coming into effect on Tuesday. The law comes after almost 1,000 people testing positive for COVID-19 have left hospitals against medical advice. Romania has recently seen record figures of reported infections. The country’s coronavirus statistics  on July 21 show a new record daily high of 994 COVID-19 cases out of a total of 39,133  with 2,074 deaths (36 in the last 24 hours) and 24,454 recovered.
Romanian former cabinet adviser finally cleared of alleged wrongdoing
A court in Romania has finally cleared a former cabinet adviser of any wrongdoing in connection with a file put forward by the country’s Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). Darius Vâlcov, a former adviser of ex-Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă seen by many as the mastermind behind the economic policy of the opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD), was subject to a DIICOT investigation for illegaly unvailing an alleged secret co-operation protocol between General Prosecutor’s Office and Romania’s Intelligence Service (SRI). The move was seen as a threat to Romania’s national security with  Mr. Vâlcov allegedly unveiling the document on the Internet in August 2018.Today’s  ruling was confirmed by a Bucharest Appeal Court at the request of DIICOT prosecutors.
