Romanian PM meets BNS delegates

Romanian Prime Minister Ludovic Orban met delegates of the country’s National Trade Union Block (BNS) at government headquarters in the Victoria Palace on Wednesday. The meeting took place following a request of the BNS with officials including Romania’s labour, transport, and economy ministers attending the event. Talks were expected to focus on public retirement and security funds along with issues concerning the country’s labour market, agriculture and public investments, according to a BNS statement issued recently.

Meeting of Belarus’ Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Aleksievich with EU officials

Romania’s ambassador to Belarus Viorel Moșanu was among EU officials meeting the country’s Nobel laureate Svetlana Aleksievich in the capital Minsk on Wednesday as Ms. Aleksievich was a well-known supporter of the opposition in the country. EU diplomats have expressed their support following threats from the authoritarian regime in Belarus. Ms Aleksievich had previously condemned police violence against protesters throughout Belarus and urged strongman Alexander Lukashenko to react peacefully.

Latest Romania coronavirus figures

Officials in Romania confirmed 1,271 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours after 24,043 tests reported on Wednesday, according to figures issued by the country’s Strategic Communication Group (GCS). The total number of cases in Romania went up to 98,304. More than 41,000 coronavirus patients were declared cured so far while 12,557 asymptomatic patients were discharged ten days after the diagnosis. Another 41,002 patients recovered.
