Romanian Ambassador in Belarus Viorel Moşanu recalled for consultations

Romanian ambassador to Belarus Viorel Moşanu has been recalled for consultations. The decision has been taken as a sign of solidarity with Lithuania and Poland, as the Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu announced. He also stressed that the pressure under which the Minsk government has put the European Union member states does not support the dialogue. One month ago, Viorel Moşanu was one of the Union’s member states’ ambassadors who visited the Svetlana Alexievich, a Literature Nobel Prize Laureate and an opponent of the Minsk regime. Poland and Lithuania have recalled their ambassadors from Belarus, for consultations, after Minsk has asked those countries to reduce their diplomatic presence in Belarus.

Romania and the United States have signed a new document of defense cooperation for 2020-2030

Romania and the United States have signed a new document of defense cooperation for the years 2020-2030. It has been signed in Washington, by the Minister of Defense, Nicolae Ciucă, and by the American defense Secretary Mark Esper. The American representative said that The United States are grateful to Romania for its commitment to the North-Atlantic Alliance, especially for it hosting the Shield in Deveselu, a key element of the anti-shell defense of NATO.
Mark Esper: I want to thank Romania for hosting regular training exercises that improve the interoperability of our forces and strengthen deterrence against Russia along NATO’s eastern flank. The United States’ commitment to NATO and Article 5 is ironclad, and we will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Romania as we advance peace, democracy, freedom and our other shared values.
The Romanian Minister of Defense Nicolae Ciucă explained that, by signing the document, Romania and the United States will develop the potential of the Black Sea.
Nicolae Ciucă: The United States is our strongest ally. Romania’s recent national defense strategy, 2020-2024, highlights both the importance and the priority of working together in securing U.S. strategic flexibility in the Black Sea region and around. Romania will keep and further increase this status as a predictable, stable and credible security pillar and beacon of democracy in the region.

President Klaus Iohannis released a message on the National Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust

President Klaus Iohannis released a message on the National Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust. The chief of state honors the survivors and firmly condemns the atrocities that mutilated our history forever. Klaus Iohannis said, on behalf of all Romanians, that innocent victims will not be forgotten and expressed his commitment not to allow such a tragedy to happen again. In the same message, the president mentioned that renewed hatred is the scourge of our times and pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic triggered, on a global scale, not only a health crisis but also a trust crisis. This is generated, says the chief of state, by the spread of fake news, conspiracy theories and by promoting hatred messages and Eurosceptic, xenophobic speeches of manipulation and exacerbation of the antisemitism.
