Romanian Social-Democrats expected to present their version of budget plan

Romania’s former governing left-wing Social Democratic Party (PSD) is expected to present its own draft of a budget plan later on Wednesday. The right-wing government’s version is wrong as it promotes an austerity policy, PSD leader Marcel Celacu told Radio Romania. „Everyone is worried about the government’s austerity proposals. There are no major investments, no consumption”, Mr Celacu said. „We see just cuts in pensions and wages, and, last but not least, future layoffs”, he added. Lower house speaker Ludovic Orban, leader of the governing right-wing National Liberal Party (PNL) said the goverrnment’s draft budget was not expected to promote tax increases though the Cabinet was trying hard to provide resources in existing pandemic conditions. The government’s draft budget is expected to go to parliament for debates next month.
