The Bucharest Tribunal ordered the arrest and judicial control of some police officers

The Bucharest Tribunal ordered the preventive arrest of three of the agents from the 16-th Police Station in the capital, accused of beating two young people in the area Revolution Heroes, in September, last year. Three other officers were placed under judicial control for a period of 60 days and no precautionary measures were taken against one of them. In this case, the prosecutors of the Capital Prosecutor’s Office charged nine police officers. In September 2020, two young people complained that they had been beaten by agents, after pointing out that they were not wearing a protective mask and were giving unjustified fines. One of the youths said he was handcuffed, beaten with sticks, put in a police van and taken to a field near Jilava, where he was allegedly tortured.

The South African strain of the coronavirus also appeared in Romania

The South African strain of the coronavirus, less sensitive to vaccines, has appeared also in Romania. Medlife Clinic specialists identified two cases out of 93 randomly analyzed samples. In the same batch, 72 samples contain the British strain. In less than two months, the prevalence on the studied groups regarding the British strain evolved from 12% to 77%. The number of infections with this strain in our country reached 272. Most cases are in Bucharest – 61, but were also identified in Constanţa – 4, Dâmboviţa – 2 and one each in Prahova, Ilfov, Galaţi, Cluj and Teleorman.

4,271 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus in Romania

The evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in Romania maintains its negative trend. 4,271 new cases were reported yesterday, after performing almost 36,000 tests. Most new cases were in Bucharest, 643, in Timiș there were over 350, in Brașov 200, and nine other counties reported over 100 cases each. In the red zone there are five counties: Timiș, Maramureș, Ilfov, Cluj and Brașov. There have also been 98 deaths associated with the coronavirus, and the biggest concern is the accelerated increase in the number of cases requiring hospitalization, over 9,000, meaning more than 2,000 compared to two weeks ago. The number of cases in Intensive Care units has reached a record level for the last six weeks, with 1,070 patients beeing hospitalizes in such facilities./opopescu
