Romania has reported almost 6,000 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours

Romanian authorities have reported on Friday 5,593 new COVID-19 cases, out of more than 38.500 tests performed in the last 24 hours. Most new cases were reported in the capital Bucharest – 1,031. There were also 143 deaths and 1.313 patients are receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units. Bucharest and another eight counties are in the red scenario as far as the incidence of cases per one thousand inhabitants is concerned.

The Romanian state will issue digital vaccination certificates for vaccinated citizens

Romania is to issue digital vaccination certificates for citizens who have received the COVID-19 vaccine and want to travel for tourism purposes, the Economy Minister, Claudiu Nasui has announced on Friday, after meeting the Greek Tourism Minister, adding that such documents will be recognized by countries such as Greece. The estival season in Greece will open on May 14th, but trips could also be made during the Easter holiday, as of April 15th. Minister Nasui has said that there are three categories of people and documents needed until the vaccination certificate is ready, adding that the certificate itself would include a negative COVID test – people who had the disease, people with positive antibodies and, obviously, vaccinated people.

The European Commission supports the removal of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism on Romania’s Judiciary

The European Commission supports the removal of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism on Romania’s Judiciary until the end of this year, Prime Minister Florin Citu has said in a Facebook post. He made the announcement after meeting the European Commission Vice president Vera Jourova. Florin Citu has also said that the government wants that the „unfortunate” legislative changes made between 2017 and 2019 be removed and repaired and that it also shares the Commission’s will to finalize the commitments on the rule of law by the end of the first semester of 2021.
