Romania extends the state of alert by a month as of April 13

The Romanian government has extended the country’s state of alert by another 30 days, starting on April 13. Authorities have also approved the measures to be enforced during this time, in order to prevent and counter the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures previously applied are to be maintained for another month. The government has also decided to allow an exception to the night curfew during the Easter holiday and more relaxed measures for Muslims in the country during the holy month of Ramadan.

Updated tally of the COVID-19 pandemic in Romania

The Romanian authorities have reported another 4,989 daily cases of COVID-19, out of almost 40,500 tests performed in the last 24 hours. Most new cases were reported in the capital Bucharest – 865. Authorities have also announced 172 new deaths related to a COVID-19 infection. About 13,900 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 1,495 patients are treated in intensive care units.

Romanian Border Police have found five containers loaded with waste in the South Agigea Constanta port

The Romanian Border police have uncovered five containers carrying waste which were unloaded from a Liberian flagged ship, which were loaded in Germany by a Belgian company. Two commercial firms were identified in the capital Bucharest and in the county of Prahova, which were performing illegal activities of waste import in the country.
