The documentary „Colectiv” is the first Romanian production nominated for two categories of the 2021 Oscar Awards

The documentary „Collective” lost the Oscars to its rivals this year, but remains a premiere, being the first Romanian production nominated in two categories in the famous world film competition. The big winner of the gala was the film „Nomadland”, which confirmed the status of favorite with the awards for best feature film, directing and female performance.

Romania vaccination campaign updates

Over three million people have so far received at least one dose of anti-COVID vaccine in Romania, of which 1,800,000 have also get the second dose to reach the maximum degree of protection. Romanian authorities said more than 77,000 people had been vaccinated in the last 24 hours. New quantities of vaccine are due to arrive in the country in the next days, almost 850,000 doses of the three sera currently used in Romania. On Monday, Romania will receive the largest tranche of vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, over 725,000 doses. So far, almost 4,400,000 doses have been received, of which more than 3,800,000 have already been administered. Also, a new tranche of the vaccine produced by AstraZeneca will arrive on Monday, 40,800 doses, after 76,800 doses of Moderna were already distributed on Sunday. Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered this week in Romania, after the European Medicines Authority (EMA) re-evaluated and reconfirmed the vaccine’s effectiveness. On the other hand, Romanian authorities reported the fewest new daily coronavirus cases since mid-February, 1,542. There are about 10,300 COVID patients in hospitals, 1,354 of which are in intensive care units. However, the number of deaths associated with infection with the new coronavirus remains high: 127 in 24 hours.

Anti-COVID immunization centers will be open during the Easter holidays

The anti-COVID immunization centers will be opened during Easter holidays, the Minister of Health, Ioana Mihăilă, announced on Monday. She called for more accountability and called on the population to abide by both the restriction measures and the vaccination schedules.
Ioana Mihăilă: We will set up a task force at the level of the Ministry of Health on relaxation measures, and this task force will have two objectives: relaxation measures that will start, if the pandemic situation allows us, from June 1, and the second objective will be return to normality of hospitals, outpatients and family doctors’ offices in terms of working hours, the number of patients consulted, so that non-COVID patients could have better access to health services.
The incidence rate of COVID has dropped in the capital Bucharest below 3.5 per thousand inhabitants, which means a relaxation of the imposed restrictions, the city prefect Alin Stoica announced on Monday. Thus, the residents of Bucharest could stay out until 22:00 instead of 20:00 on weekends, and the shops will have the same schedule as on the rest of the week. The gyms could also be reopened in the coming days.
