Romania is no longer included in the European ELI-ERIC consortium

Romania is no longer included in the European ELI-ERIC consortium, approved by the European Commission. Last year, Hungary and the Czech Republic, Bucharest’s partners in the project, demanded the exclusion of the Magurele Laser. In 2012, the three countries received funding from Brussels for the pan-European research project Extreme Light Infrastructure Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP) with the Romanian component. According to a statement published on Thursday, Romania is expected to join the laser consortium near Bucharest in the future, but it is not specified with what status. In addition to the Czech Republic and Hungary, Italy and Lithuania are founding members, and Germany and Bulgaria are founding members with observer status.
